COVID-19: Throwing SMEs and Employment a Lifeline

COVID-19 has brought the world’s economy to the brink and represents the most significant economic threat since the great depression. Of those most vulnerable by the economic standstill brought on by the virus are small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and the vast number of jobs they provide. In this episode of Luohan On Air, our guests will investigate, debate, and share their thoughts on not only how to jumpstart the economy but also support those most threatened: SMEs, workers, and their jobs.

The Speakers:

Sir Christopher Pissarides

Sir Christopher Pissarides was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2010. In addition, he is also a member of Luohan Academy’s Academic Committee. He is currently the Regius Professor of Economics at London School of Economics. Prof. Sir Pissarides Christopher specializes in the economics of labor markets, macroeconomic policy, economic growth and structural change. 

Min Zhu

Min Zhu is the current Head of the National Financial Research Institute at Tsinghua University and former Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. He was the inaugural Special Advisor to the Managing Director. Zhu has held senior positions Bank of China from 2003 to 2009 and was a Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China from 2009 to 2010. He has published extensively on a wide range of macroeconomic management, financial regulation and supervision, and financial market issues. He is a guest lecturer at several university graduate schools, and a frequent speaker at major global economic forums.

Long Chen

Long Chen is currently the Director of Luohan Academy and Provost of the Hupan School of Entrepreneurship and serves on the IMFs Fintech advisory board. From 2014-2018 Chen was the chief strategy officer of Any Financial. He has previously held several leadership roles in China's internet, finance, regulatory and research institutions including at the People's Bank of China.
