Macroeconomic Forecasting in the Time of Covid-19

Luohan Academy

Since the coronavirus pandemic, epidemiologists have struggled to measure the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). However, for economists, measuring its impact on the economy has led to novel approaches and increased use of nontraditional and high-frequency datasets. Three Brazilian economists join us for this episode of the Digitomics podcast - Academician and Professor Edmar Bacha, Director of the Institute of Economic Policy Studies, and Marcelo C. Medeiros and Eduardo Zilberman from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro – PUC-Rio. To tell us about their experience forecasting the spread of the virus in Brazil, how they see our new reliance on new nontraditional data sources as a paradigm shift in economics, and Brazil's macroeconomic outlook.
